Clowns, Socks, and Chicken Pox

Recent conversation with my mom and sister:

Sister: Remember you put socks on my hands when I had the Chicken Pox--so I couldn't scratch?

Mom: Yes! Mandy, do you remember what I had to put socks on for you when you were little?

Me: My clown lamp.

Mom: Hahaha! Yes!

Okay, so what? I was terrified of this little thing. I made my mom put a sock over that horrible little clown so he couldn't taunt me with his dumb face.

I can't recall whether his dog upset me too... but probably. Just look at it. ::shudder::

So I guess that would be the wrong thing to get you for your wedding?

/sigh

lol I also had that lamp as a kid and had similar feelings about the clown. Something was just a little off about him...

The clown's freakyass ears creep me out but it's the dog that is truly horrifying. I doubt I would be able to sleep in the same room as that lamp.

Ohmygosh, you are hilarious! I love your description of the clown and his sad lil pup. This post made me laugh out loud! And yeah, that clown is totally freaky.

OH MY GOD! I had that lamp...and it is why I am afraid of clowns!

AHHHH! I think the creepy little dog is almost scarier than the creepy little clown.

I had the same clown lamp, plus the light switchplates that went with it. This lamp must have been pretty popular back in the early 80s. It appeared in Tad's bedroom in the movie "Cujo" and in at least two episodes of "Sesame Street." I'm pretty sure I've seen it somewhere else, too, though I'm blanking on its third media appearance.

I'll relieve you of the pain. How much do you want for the lamp!? I used to have one and I miss it SOO much! :-) (seriously, how much?)

I had that exact same lamp as a child. I don't know what happened to it. I was in a second hand store today and lo and behold...there it was! It brought back so many memories and emotions. I didn't buy it, but I took a picture of it with my phone to show my mom tomorrow. Oddly enough I saw several other things I remember having around the house when I was a kid. Did the owner rob us years ago? No, she didn't. She's a mom of the same generation as my mom. Good memories in that store.
